Had brunch on a weekend. The dim sum is good. I find it was even better than Hong Xing (Chinatown) which was my favourite dim sum place for a long time. No time to take many pictures cos we were busy eating. Would go back again.:)

The menu features about 50 items. Since it was a long list, I shan't elaborate here. The menu was extensive with even Shark Fin Soup and exotic items like Pork Knuckle and Foie Gras Xiao Long Bao included in the menu.

Among what we have ordered for the day, I like the Char Siew Su, or the Barbeque Pork Pie as they called it. The juicy and tender sweet Char Siew was encased in a soft, crispy and fragrant pastry.

The second item was the Char Siew Pau which was one of the best I had so far, not too dry or moist and the pork was delicious too without the presence of fat meat.

The Egg Tarts were nicely baked too, the custard has a rich egg flavour yet not too overpowering and it has the texture of a custard flan, different from the usual egg tarts with a jelly like or gelatinous filling. The tart was delicate with a cheesecake crust-like of texture. The combination was yummy.

"What is famous here?" I asked the boss.
"Everything shows on the wall are famous." Very well answered. But I felt dumb.
This coffeeshop is high tech. They use palm to take orders like those at Billy Bombers in Singapore. The curry paste is so famous that it is exported to Hong Kong!

The white coffee is not as sweet as the more commercialised Nam Heong white coffee. The coffee here is brew with more fragrance rather than sweetness. A must visit place for coffee lover.

The coffee shop in the old part of Ipoh town. If you come in from the new town, turn right at the first junction after crossing the Kinta River… The coffeeshop is on the second block on the left.

Try beef noodles, popiah, satay (pork & intestines), kway teow soup.

Love the intestines satay. Good!!!

THE Pun Chun restaurant is a venerable 70-year-old establishment that’s well-known for its chicken biscuits and ngap pei meen (duck thigh noodles). Served with egg noodles, the steamed duck soup is cooked with Chinese herbs such as wolfberries (kei chee), pak kei, wai san, tong sum and dried longan. The herbal flavour is light and elegant, and the duck is steamed to flavourful tenderness.

The kopitiam has been run by the Khong family since 1938 and is now under the care of the matriarch, Chan Yoke Ooi.

Chan said the herbal duck recipe was taught to her father-in-law, Khong Hin, by a sifu back in China.

Apart from the duck noodles, the wantan noodles with plump dumplings and the taro puffs (woo kok) are also very good. But there is more: fresh batches of traditional Chinese pastries such as wife biscuits (loh poh peang), mooncakes and char siew pau are brought out throughout the day. The sha ket ma (sweet pastry made from flour, sugar and eggs) is considered one of the best around.

There is another branch that is opened beside this main branch. It is located at a newer coffeshop with fans and look cleaner. The new branch is authentic. (I checked with the hawkers at the stalls at the side). My parents even packed it back home to Singapore.
